About George
George Davies started his journey into lighting design at the ripe age of 10, when he was asked to operate lights at his primary school play. That year he asked for an entry level DMX controller and an LED Par Can at Christmas and that was the start of his ever growing stock of lighting fixtures and control equipment.
At 13, George borrowed money from his parents to set up as a mobile DJ. He figured that would give him a chance to use his lights properly, as well as earn some money to buy more! As DJStarlights he completed over 70 paid gigs in the 2 years that followed and by age 15 had built up a stock of lighting equipment big enough to allow him to switch his attention from DJ-ing to Lighting Design for events including Live Music and Theatre.
In 2017 George worked at Boondocks Festival in Malmesbury where he designed and operated second stage lighting, Phoenix Festival in Cirencester where he lit the 'Let's Play Music' stage, Minety Festival where he programmed and operated main stage lighting and Lakefest where he designed and operated the Floating Globe (second) stage lighting - quite a summer!
In 2018 George returned to Minety, Boondocks and Lakefest as well as staging a show for Spice girl Melanie C in the grounds of Lacock Abbey. Also acquiring new customers including The Goods Shed, Tetbury and Neeld Hall in Chippenham where he does regular freelance work.
As the summer season of 2019 draws to a close George is reflecting on his third summer of festivals and looking forward to expanding his Avolites skills by attending their training in November. Now entering his last year at school he is keen to take on more freeelance work and hopes to find full time work in stage and theatre lighting from next summer once he turns 18.
At the time of writing George has gained experience in the use of a number of Lighting Control solutions including:
